What we are talking about here is operational intelligence (OI), which can be defined as the ability to tactically address business intelligence demands in a near real-time manner.  According to our friends at Wikipedia: “The purpose of OI is to monitor business activities and identify and detect situations relating to inefficiencies, opportunities, and threats.”
